EduRITA uses the package Ryacas to evaluate Algerbraic Answer Questions, and uses Mathlive inputs to write them.
Should EduRITA simplify answers before evaluating?
If this is selected, EduRITA will mark an answer as correct so long as it is equivalent to the correct answer.
If this is not selected, EduRITA will only mark an answer as correct if it is correctly simplified before submitting.
Shiould students get part marks if they didn't simplify their answers?
If this is selected, EduRITA will provide part marks when an answer is equivalent to the correct answer, but not simplified.

One potential use case for Algerbraic Answer questions is for calculus.
This example asks the student to calculate the derivative of $$f(y)=y(x^2 - \frac{1}{3}y^2)$$ with respect to y.
The correct answer can be an exact match or algerbraically equivalent to the correct answer, if the setting to Simplify Answers is selected when writing the question.
For this Sample Question typing out the factored form of the answer (x-y)(x+y) will also be correct if the Simplify Answers setting is enabled.
